What is J Reid of Hove on about? The King Alfred is a "white elephant" is it (Letters, March 23)?
Well I always understood a white elephant was something of dubious value. For me and the thousands of others who use the various facilities on a regular basis, this is certainly not the case.
I also don't really see how a tower block on the seafront - however modern the design - would be "a building more appropriate to our city status". We already have plenty of tower blocks in Brighton and Hove and they certainly don't seem appropriate now.
In many other countries, there is a ban on the development of buildings above two storeys along the seafront because they realise high buildings would detract from the area. Why does everyone seem so keen to ruin the primary asset of Brighton and Hove?
