I am writing to express my support for the new development at Brighton Marina. I did support the previous development plans but it appears if you do not express a view the planning committee take the soft option of being swayed by 30 to 40 demonstrators who were against the scheme.
The silver lining might be that this new scheme looks even better and surely must answer most critics - it is certainly an opportunity which cannot be missed this time.
And that is my reason for writing - the silent majority must speak.
I am a resident of Hove and have worked at Brighton Marina for many years.
The marina has always had the potential to be a vibrant hub for business, social and residential activities but has had only limited success.
It needs a boost and now, with this new Brunswick Development Scheme, the marina has the chance to become a jewel for the city of Brighton, as it was meant to be 30 years ago. How much longer must we wait?
I am also a supporter of the Brighton Eye, which I think is a fitting epitaph for the West Pier, going skyward instead of seaward.
In memory of the many bungling attempts to save this glorious old lady well we did have more than thirty years to get it right and got it wrong.
In fact, Brighton and Hove City Council appears to have a great opportunity to serve its residents and businesses by supporting the exciting developments along our seafront which have been highlighted in The Argus recently the King Alfred, the Brighton Eye, the Brighton Centre, the Black Rock Ice Rink and, of course, Brighton Marina. What is also needed is The Brighton Rocket Monorail to connect these developments together - but that was rejected.
An integrated transport system? These developers are prepared to pay. With a bit of vision, this could be fantastic.
We have the dream, we have the developers, we have the architects, we have the finance - we have a great opportunity now. Do we have the councillors?
Please say, "Yes, yes, yes, yes". By the way, did I mention the Falmer Football Stadium? The Olympics in 2012? What are we doing?
