Former Marillion frontman Fish marks the 20th anniversary of their Misplaced Childhood album with his own CD, Return To Childhood.
In this innovative example of cross-genre marketing, comedian Will Smith also paid tribute with a concept show charting his own hapless youth.
Recalling his former band Songvolution, Smith interspersed tales of less-than-glamorous keyboard-playing, rock group rivalry and unrequited love with memories of time spent hero-worshipping rock acts.
Accompanying each recollection was a spoof documentary clip featuring Fish, with Smith as a crazed but harmless fan who proceeds to make a nuisance of himself at the home of his hero.
Ending with a shower of pyrotechnic sparks fired out from the neck of his Human League-style over-the-shoulder keyboard, Smith's combination of humour, passion and intelligence made the show hilarious, even for a non-Marillion fan like myself.
