While most up-and-coming bands claim to understand the importance of image in music, the plethora of bland press shots many of them spend finite funds commissioning often betrays a fundamental lack of imagination.
Not so The Noisettes.
As fervently exciting as their music, the fantastically flamboyant frontwoman Shingai Shoniwa embraces face paint, odd shoes and green fishnets, lending her a striking stage presence somewhere between Skunk Anansies Skin and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Inspired by the circus and burlesque nightclubs she once sang in, Shoniwa springs a further surprise by adding substance to style with her voice, swinging between gritty and soulful with the aid of impressively hairy accomplices Dan Smith and Jamie Morrison.
Debut EP Three Moods Of The Noisettes proved aptly titled, lurching thrillingly from punky drunken rage to laidback funk.
