John Handley's polemic against the Labour Government is puzzling for both its timing and inaccuracy.
Among his "disturbing facts" is the assertion that crime is going up. But only this week, The Argus reported a Brighton police chief's comments on statistics showing the city is now amongst the lowest crime areas in the UK.
Mr Handley says that immigrants are "flooding into this country unchecked", yet all independent figures show the numbers have been falling sharply over the past two years.
As a teacher, I know his claim that "youngsters are leaving school barely able to read or write or are unable to converse intelligently" is complete nonsense. Exam results improve every year and the proportion of 18 to 19 year olds entering university is far higher than ten years ago.
With regard to the timing of his letter, is Mr Handley operating under the illusion there are local elections coming up in May?
Not in Brighton and Hove Mr Handley, you are a year early if this is a piece of pre-election spin.
