If posthumous knighthoods ever come into vogue, one man most deserving of such an honour must surely be that daddy of discoveries, Hughie Green, starmaker supreme. If fame was your goal, Hughie was your man.
At a time when phone-in shows had not been invented and mobile phones were still on the drawing board, Hughie Green's Opportunity Knocks was the route along which talented people needed to travel on their journey starwards.
One of the brightest stars to emerge triumphant at the age of only six was Bonnie Langford.
Recently a triumphant finalist in Dancing On Ice, Bonnie is wowing them nightly as she performs the leading role of Roxie Hart in the hit West End musical Chicago.
Bonnie was an Opportunity Knocks winner in 1971 and yet another brilliant little girl was waiting in the wings, eager to knock us for six as we gasped in disbelief at the nine-year-old Lena Zavaroni's electrifying personality as she belted out Ma! He's Making Eyes At Me in true Sophie Tucker-style. Lena was immediately hailed as the new Shirley Temple.
Hughie Green must have felt honoured to have discovered such talents.
I wonder who other readers would choose to receive a posthumous honour?
