The Southern Water Authority (SWA) has been urging us for some time to save water. So on March 17, we duly ordered a water butt under its special offer.
We thought it would be useful for watering the garden or even flushing the toilet if things got serious.
I suppose I should have been concerned when it took at least two weeks for the order confirmation letter to arrive, but I let it pass.
When delivery had not been made by April 14, I phoned to enquire what was happening.
The recorded message stated they were experiencing a very heavy demand and there would be further delays of at least three to four weeks.
When, after some time, I was able to speak to a real person (they were experiencing a high level of calls) this information was confirmed.
Is it really too much to expect the SWA to take steps and prepare for a high demand in view of all their dire warnings? If they do not take the situation seriously then how can they expect it of their customers?
