If the current crop of coolly detached indie bands leaves you cold, then the raw, youthful exuberance of Miss Black America may well revive your jaded heart.
Formed in Bury St Edmunds, their impassioned melange of classic and indie rock, punk and grunge evolved as a direct reaction to the boredom and frustration of small-town life and their incendiary live shows have earned them an enthusiastic and loyal fan base.
Signed to London-based Ruby Slippers Records and with new album Terminal (recorded by Editors/Nizlopi producers Gavin Monaghan and Andy Taylor) recently released, MBA are experiencing something of a rebirth, after a string of bad luck set them back.
The band were on the brink of something big several years ago when their former label Integrity Records went belly up, triggering the group's implosion.
Just as the new line-up got into gear, lead singer/guitarist Seymour Glass (who had already lost a fretting finger at the outset of his career) nearly killed himself with drink, resulting in blood sugar problems and a period of recuperation.
Now attracting praise from the music press and playing highprofile supports with The Libertines, Doves and The Dandy Warhols, 2006 looks set to be their year.
A new single Emotional Junkmail, is out Monday, May 1.
Starts 8pm, tickets cost £4 and £3. Call 01273 702333
