I had come with the intention of reliving my glorious indie youth, crowd-surfing and all.
But the cruel lack of audience meant any attempts to fling myself off the stage would have given me a nasty shock and probably brought Rick and the band down to earth with a bump too.
The former Shed Seven frontman deserved much more than this as he attacked the microphone like a frenzied ape on amphetamines.
The heavy guitar-tastic set was peppered with a few of the old favourites to keep the die-hard Shed fans happy and sure enough, the first chords of On Standby and Chasing Rainbows prompted mass toe-tapping and arm-waving.
The Dukes' new material, less mellow and more hard rock, was pretty good too and will give them a following in their own right.
I may not have rediscovered my teenage days but I did find a decent band and that's never a bad thing.
