Ruth Arundell of "Defend Council Housing" (DCH) again perpetuates the myth that the city's council housing stock will be given away to a private, profit-making Housing Association to be sold off (Letters, March 29).
She is wrong.
The proposals that tenants will vote on would transfer the houses and flats currently owned by the council to a newly created, not-for-profit housing association where tenants would make up the largest group on the board.
Key tenancy rights, rents and entitlements would be protected.
Tenants on estates such as Whitehawk, Manor Farm, Craven Vale and the Bristol Estate in my ward are having their say now in how the association would be set up and run.
The £190m released by stock transfer could make a real difference to the lives of people in social housing in this city, whereas the scare stories put out by DCH only cause unnecessary alarm to elderly and vulnerable people.
I would urge anyone to check what DCH tells them with the independent advisors Tenant Participation Advisory Serviceon freephone 0800 013 0494.
