An unfortunate incident marred the first performance of Stuart Little at Eastbourne's Devonshire Park Theatre.
In Act One Ross Sutherland, who gives a good performance as Stuart's brother George, hit his head on a speaker and was unable to continue. The cast play several roles and understudy Robin Soutar had to read Ross's parts in the second half.
However, this did not detract from the enjoyment of Amber, my nine-year-old companion.
Stuart is a loveable puppet ably operated by Stewart Cairns. He really appears to be alive. There is one scene where he skates around the stage which is a delight to watch. The sets change with great rapidity and the theme song will haunt you as you leave.
Annie Wood has directed a delightful production which can be enjoyed by everyone from three to 93.
