Simon Williams said last week (The Argus, March 22) how he has struggled to find the right balance with his responsibilities as a councillor and those outside.
It is a significant challenge to find that balance but denouncing the local authority as a gentlemen's smoking club is hardly a positive response and suggests he is more concerned with headlines than solutions.
Simon has used his departure to throw his teddy out of the pram. It is a shame he has allowed important points about the demands of serving the community to be undermined by his determination to promote the cult of youth.
I am a young woman who will be 27 at the time of the elections next May and have been selected to represent The Labour Party in Regency Ward. Far from seeing some colleagues as old "fuddy duddies", I am actually looking forward to working alongside people with a wide experience in life.
