For me, one of the many delights Brighton has to offer is buying fresh organic salad and vegetables from Gardner Street market on Saturday or from Bill's Produce Store in North Road, deservedly winner of the Observer Best Newcomer award.
Not only does buying local food help local producers but it is environmentally sustainable and also tastes better - much better, for example, than the all-year-round tasteless strawberries that are imported from faraway places to appear weekly on our supermarket shelves.
Let's bring back seasonal food and help sustain our precious environment at the same time.
In a similar vein, after leaving Bill's, as I walked back along New Road, I was reminded how disappointed I had been to hear the granite being used for that scheme is coming from China because it is a cheaper option.
Wake up, Brighton and Hove City Council, and look at your environmental credentials.
