I fear we now face what is perhaps the most serious threat to the community in a generation. I refer to the water crisis and its effect.
Having a spare morning I thought it important to spend it at the council planning department working my way through a two-foot high bundle of plans relating to the infrastructure for the new housing estate planned for Durrington/Titnore.
What I found in those supposedly professional plans was no reference as to how the extra demand for water needed to support the 900 plus houses and supporting buildings was going to be met.
With Southern Water now applying for draconian drought orders more familiar to sub-Saharan Africa, I thought it worthwhile at the planning department to try to identify suitable places to have standpipes and water-bowsers.
Standpipes could be erected in Adur Avenue, New Road, Winterbourne Way and Tasmin Way. Possibly the most appropriate place for the water-bowsers would be in the Tesco and Southern Water car parks.
