The Environment Agency has drawn up plans to stop a river from flooding.
People are invited to comment on options for managing flood risk along the west bank of the River Adur in Shoreham.
An exhibition of the proposals will be held next week.
The consultation document, on proposals to improve flood defences from the A27 flyover to Shoreham Beach and down to the harbour mouth, will be on display at Adur Outdoor Activities Centre in Brighton Road, Shoreham, on Tuesday, from noon to 9pm, and Wednesday, from 9am to 5pm.
Agency staff will be on hand to answer questions.
Andrew Gilham, Sussex flood risk manager for the agency, said: "Last summer we completed work to improve the Shoreham and Lancing sea defences. We are now looking at ways we can improve the protection for those people at risk of flooding from the west bank of the River Adur.
"Flooding can devastate people's lives and homes. We can't stop flooding from happening altogether but we can reduce the probability by improving flood defences.
"We urge local people at risk of flooding to see the plans and provide us with their comments on the options we have put forward."
