It is not surprising people are tripping over badly laid paving slabs, as reported in The Argus (March 7).

When cable TV was connected to every house, it was possible to follow the routes the cables had taken from the sticking up edges of the slabs.

Nothing was done then, nor since. Here in Hassocks, water pipes have recently been cleaned. The work is now complete and the area has been left in a filthy mess, just as it was for similar work a few weeks ago.

Are the writers of the work contracts incapable of requiring the sites to be restored properly? Or are those responsible incapable of enforcing such a measure?
