Doug Loft is facing an anxious wait to find out whether he will still be able to play a part in Albion's fight for Championship survival.
The midfield rookie returns to hospital next week for a second x-ray on a lower left leg injury, sustained at the end of yesterday's 3-1 defeat for the Reserves at Millwall.
Loft was hurt in a challenge by a Millwall player which infuriated Reserve coach Dean White. He had to be carried off the pitch and is on crutches with the leg in a cast after going to hospital last night.
Loft revealed: "I had an x-ray and they don't think it's broken but they are not sure. I'll find out when I go back next week.
"If it's not broken it will be a couple of weeks, if it is then it's three months. It was one of the last kicks of the game. I played the ball through, he came in late and trod on my standing foot."
The injury has dashed Loft's hopes of a third successive appearance in the first team against Luton at Withdean on Saturday. He made his debut as a late substitute in the last home game against Preston and came on again at QPR last Saturday.
Jake Robinson scored in the second half for a Reserve side which featured goalkeeper Flo Chaigneau and Argentine striker Federico Turienzo on their comebacks from knee and hamstring injuries.
Albion Reserves: Chaigneau; Dodd, Elphick, Mayo, Rents, Cox, Reid, Nicolas, Loft, Robinson, Turienzo. Subs: McPhee for Turienzo (46), Jarrett for Cox (70), Martin, Breach.
