He's received remix requests from artists as farranging as French crooner Sebastian Tellier, grime star Lady Sovereign and art pop favourites Franz Ferdinand.

But Metronomy, aka Joseph Mount, only got into making his acclaimed electronic music when the various bands he played for were "slowly ripped apart by girls".

He still drums for quirky indie group The Customers, with whom he made the move from Devon to Brighton. But these days he spends more time with the outdated computer sold to him by his father.

Mashing up Devo, Zappa, Kraftwerk and The Ramones, his talent is for making experimental music that's full of catchy tunes, and the playful folktronica of 2005's Pip Paine (Pay Back The £5,000 You Owe) has earned him many fans.

Metronomy has a reputation for charming live shows, both solo and with his backing band The Food Group, who provide bass, drums and keys as well as hand claps and funny dances.
