I share Ed Birch's concerns regarding customers who complain about how long it takes to get into Brighton and the shortage of parking spaces near North Laine.
It was in order to reduce traffic congestion in the city centre and encourage more visitors that the Labour administration proposed a park-and-ride scheme. Although this proposal received widespread support from the business community, including Sussex Enterprise, it was voted against by a coalition of Greens, Liberals and Tories.
If Mr Birch is concerned about parking in North Laine, he may wish to have a word with his local Green councillors whose ward covers the area. I suggest Mr Birch asks them why they voted against park-and-ride and why they are now calling for the whole of North Laine to be pedestrianised - a measure which will reduce city centre car parking even further.
