In response to Graham Deane (Letters, March 2), although I am a member of the Hove Civic Society, he does not represent my views regarding the development of the King Alfred site.
In fact, I am completely in favour of the Frank Gehry building. At no time have I been approached and asked my opinion by Mr Deane or any other member of the society.
This building has made worldwide news. My sister, who resides on Vancouver Island, Canada, saw on her television the area in Hove which will incorporate the wonderful leisure centre and surrounding flats.
If you walk along the promenade and look at the diversity of all the different styles of architecture in the area, you will notice there is no uniform look.
When the Tory Party ruled Hove Council, ask yourself why it allowed the complete demolition of the lovely old houses in Grand Avenue to be replaced with blocks of flats? Was this not a conservation area?
Do all those people who objected to the pedestrianisation of George Street refuse to sit outside on a lovely summer's day and enjoy the cosmopolitan air we have now?
When we have the new leisure centre, will those same people ask their families and friends to refuse to use those facilities? Of course not.
As a founder member of Hove Up, I would welcome anyone whose wishes coincide with our continued support of the Frank Gehry project. To join, email: hoveacity-designer.com or call 07770 608024.
