Heavy metal is back and better than ever before.
Brighton band The Mutts rocked out at the Freebutt, wowing a small but appreciative audience with a sound mixing the best of Eighties heavy metal excess and up-to-the minute indie.
Sexy lead singer Chris Murtagh admitted the band had been drinking since midday but they never missed a beat, backed by Animal-style new drummer Jake Sweetman and handlebar-mustachioed, loud and dirty bassist Sam Burgess.
He looked every bit the heavy metal hero, leading the band through instrumentals which ended with him licking the frets of the guitar or leaping into the crowd.
The band have been touring Europe since mid-February and came to Brighton for one night before heading to New York for a month-long tour of the USA.
They will be missed.
