Far from being "a self-appointed spokesperson", Selma Montford speaks for thousands of Brightonians who have despaired at the wanton demolition of historic buildings in Brighton during the past 40 years. Many bland developments are already being considered for demolition while yet more designs are being thrust forward by developers anxious to make easy money.
Developers are now threatening to withdraw finance for one project if they don't get permission to develop another prime town site.
Brighton and Hove City Council must start listening to the people of Brighton and Hove and ignore the requirements of developers.
Incidentally, it was not the Astoria which was demolished in North Street but the Essoldo. Originally called the Imperial Theatre, it was a beautiful building replaced by yet another ugly structure.
