With reference to Rob Hustwayte's article on council tax (The Argus, February 14), perhaps you should ask West Sussex County Council leader Henry Smith what his salary is, what his expenses are, what his allowances are, what the value of the perks are, how much National Insurance contributions we, as his employers, make on his behalf, and the amount we contribute to his final salary pension scheme.

Divide it by 200 and get a daily rate of who knows how much? And what do we get in return? Great success, normal responsibility or total failure? So much for the Audit Commission's repeated "excellent" evaluations.
