A shabby paddling pool was filled with concrete as part of the gradual redevelopment of the seafront.
The disused spot on the esplanade in Brighton was a favourite hang-out for skateboarders but Brighton and Hove City Council feared it had become a safety risk.
The 100m by 15m concrete pool on the east side of the West Pier, Brighton, has been out of action for years.
The eyesore has been replaced by a paddling pool and playground on the other side of the pier.
Workers have filled the pool with concrete and will flatten the wall during the next two weeks. The area will be used to stage events.
This is the latest work to smarten up the seafront.
There are also plans to rescue the historic Victorian bandstand at the other side of the West Pier after carrying out a structural investigation.
