I noted with interest the coverage of the closure of the residential home, Dresden House (The Argus, February 23).
Relatives of residents have queried why the home needed to close and are clearly unhappy about the circumstances of the closure.
I have no involvement with the home but, living close by, I frequently pass the site, which spans Medina and Albany villas.
Unless my memory plays me false, during the past year, a lot of extensive building work has taken place there. I have seen many builders' vehicles and building supplies in the street, plus scaffolding on the building and lots of building activity, as well.
It can't have been a cheap exercise and, at that time, someone had clearly determined to spend a lot of money on it.
So why do that when closure was imminent?
Given the precedence of plans for the King Alfred centre and other multi-storey units in the city, which seem to have found favour with Brighton and Hove City Council's planning department and some local councillors, can we expect to see proposals for yet another out-of-character apartment block, or even a tower, in this part of Hove?
I hope not.
