Reading the letter from John Collis (February 22), project director of Veolia Environmental Services (formerly Onyx), I was almost amused when he said the recycling site in Hove, where a recent fire occurred, is no way comparable to the new waste facilities proposed for Newhaven.
The difference is that, at Newhaven, it will be burning 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Of course, it will be inspected - twice a year and, no doubt, with plenty of warning given to the operator so it can clean up its act for the day the inspections are made. This really makes me feel safe - not.
However, the facilities may be fitted with the latest fire-warning and suppression systems. We can but hope.
