Shopping in my favourite Brighton supermarket recently, I noticed some jars of gherkins at a promotional price of 99p but dated January 1, 2005.
I pointed this out to a young man stacking shelves nearby, who showed little interest so I approached the manager. I informed him of the display date. "I'll have to have a look at that," was his sharp reply.
I paid for my small purchase and thought "so much for good manners and courtesy". Not a word of thanks for my interest. What if I had been an inspector?
