Argus readers should know another house-building crisis looms within Lewes district.
Wates, a property developer, is eager to build 400 houses on a greenfield site at Wivesfield. This is a £120m project and, to sweeten the pill, it has made an offer to East Sussex County Council by offering land on which to build a new primary school.
At a packed public meeting last Friday, this tactic was rejected by the people of Wivesfield. The proceedings broke up in noisy confusion after ten minutes.
Nevertheless, it was heartening to see yet another group of people refusing to give in to these demands and defending their piece of England's green and pleasant land.
