Why can't Southwick or Telscombe Cliffs have a musical renaissance as well as Brighton, just to balance things out? If there are any deeply cutting-edge and up-and-coming unsigned bands from the outskirts of Sussex which are, nevertheless, still getting airplay, please get in touch.
While waiting for the influx of postcards with postmarks such as Billingshurst and Burgess Hill, another Brighton group has arrived on the scene.
Monkey Sons is the bastard child issuing from the coming together of hip-hoppers Hundredth Monkey and Sons Of The Tribe last year.
The seven-to-ten-piece monkey-butterfly freak has already been getting noticed. Radio 1's Steve Lamacq made them his "find of the week" and Radio 6's Craig Charles played them in the "sample city" section of his funk show.
Their best-known track is probably Ha Ha but you can have a listen to a few more on their site, www.monkeysons.co.uk The winning sound is like blissed-out hip-hop and the Sons describe themselves as "a psychedelic hip-hop band". The sound has elements of The Streets, De La Soul, Beck and The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. You can hear more at www.myspace.com/mrcrespo With the emphasis on live performance and crowd participation, Monkey Sons look set to be a welcome addition to the hip-hop scene in Brighton and nationally.
From 10pm, £5. Call 01273 702333.
