Supersub Colin Kazim-Richards is back in Albion's starting plans after making the most of a surprise chance.
The young striker impressed manager Mark McGhee following his late call-up for last Saturday's home defeat by Watford.
Kazim-Richards was due to be on the bench for the seventh match running until Richard Carpenter pulled out during the warm-up with a calf injury.
"Colin did a lot better," McGhee said. "He was back in by default. He wasn't going to be starting.
"Seb (Carole) was going to be starting with Joe Gatting. We were going to look at that option but Colin went in and took his chance. He didn't score but he was a handful all afternoon."
Top scorer Kazim-Richards is in the Reserves for tonight's game against Gillingham at Worthing (7pm).
He will be hoping to break his duck if he makes his 17th start of the season in Saturday's basement battle at Crewe.
All five of the former Bury marksman's goals so far have been scored as a substitute.
Meanwhile, the updated bulletin on Carpenter's calf injury is much more encouraging than anticipated and physio Malcolm Stuart now believes the midfielder may even be fit to face Crewe.
The Seagulls expected him to be out for up to four weeks but the results of a scan revealed no tear.
Carole is seeing a specialist about a recurring ankle problem which threatens his participation on Saturday.
Winger Albert Jarrett's loan move to Swindon has been extended to a second month.
Jarrett made four appearances for the Robins in his first month, although three of those were as a substitute.
He was a second-half replacement as Swindon lost 3-2 to Rotherham on Saturday.
