Business in Sussex was given a royal seal of approval yesterday as the Duke of York visited staff and students promoting trade in the county.
His Royal Highness spent the morning in Uckfield talking to employees at companies TR Fastenings and Gunnebo Entrance Control before officially opening Wealden Skills Centre.
The tour was organised as part of his voluntary work as the UK's special representative for International Trade and Investment.
Lin Lucas, the manager of the new skills centre on the Bellbrook estate, said: "He talked to lots of our students and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself. It's terrific for us. This visit really raises our profile and gets our agenda out to the public."
The Duke spoke to students studying for vocational qualifications in painting and decorating, mechanics, brickwork and carpentry and then unveiled a commemorative plaque to officially open the centre.
Uckfield restaurant Phish prepared a working lunch for the royal party at TR Fastenings.
Chef Adam Wood cooked filo pastries with Welsh rarebit topping, mini Yorkshire puddings with rare roast beef and horseradish mousse and locally sourced sausage with red peppers.
