How I agree with Christine Wiltshire's sentiments that we can all do more for the planet (Letters, February 13), although the gist of her letter ended up saying, more or less, "the Government could do more for our planet".
Let's face it, with the best intentions, what can an individual really achieve?
We all know people who do the right things, such as recycling and using resources thoughtfully, but can I make developers construct buildings which match the high standards of the Jubilee Library?
Can I reduce public transport fares or make more buses or trains available to reduce the overuse of cars?
Can I raise the standard of those in "developing" countries by what I buy and where I shop?
The Government must know by now many people support green issues but which party can I support which will address them, instead of having more meetings, issuing dire warnings and wagging a finger at the naughty electorate for not pulling its weight?
We know what has to be done. It's the Government's job to look after the planet and its people - if not, what is it for?
