Paul McShane urged Albion today to stick with manager Mark McGhee, even if they are relegated.

On-loan McShane's plea follows a wonder goal from the halfway line by his Manchester United colleague Chris Eagles which earned high-flying Watford a 1-0 win at Withdean on Saturday.

The Seagulls' fourth defeat in succession dropped them to next-to-bottom in the Championship, below McGhee's old club Millwall on goal difference.

McShane still believes Albion will survive but, if they go down, the centre half said: "I think they should stick with him. It will be very unfortunate if we get relegated because I think we have surprised a few people with some of our performances.

"We have battered Leeds and we battered Watford, it's just that bit of luck. I'm sick of saying it but that's just the way it is.

"Mark McGhee has got a great sense of humour, that's what I like about him. He is very positive and keeps the lads going. He is similar to Fergie (Alex Ferguson) in a way, he wants to win every game and he's good to play under.

"The gaffer is trying to keep a positive spirit in the dressing room and I think he's doing that brilliantly."

The Seagulls go to rock-bottom Crewe on Saturday still five points adrift of safety with 11 matches left after Sheffield Wednesday lost 2-1 at home to Sheffield United.

McShane, suspended for the next two games after his tenth booking against Watford, said: "We're lucky in a way because there is not much happening around us so we're still in it. We've got to stay positive and I think it will eventually go right."
