Homelessness levels in one part of Sussex have been cut by half.
Mid Sussex District Council has reported a 49 per cent reduction in homelessness in just two years.
Between April 2003 and March 2005, levels dropped to figures not seen for 20 years.
Andrew McNaughton, cabinet member for community services, said: "We are working closely with people threatened with homelessness to look at the housing options that may be open to them.
"We are able to help some stay in their homes and help others move to alternative accommodation to avoid the crisis of becoming homeless.
"At the same time we've increased our targets to build more new affordable homes each year in partnership with housing associations.
"Homelessness represents a crisis for everyone involved and remains a worrying problem in Mid Sussex. The council will continue to work hard to prevent it wherever possible."
