Duke of York's, Preston Circus, Brighton
Following a year concentrating on breaking the USA, Aqualung returned to Britain with a three-date tour with two late-night shows at The Duke of York's Picture House in Preston Circus, Brighton.
They put on a brilliant show, merging clever, touching lyrics with complicated arrangements that build into Radiohead-sytle crescendos.
The band's dreamy music is ideally suited to a show that carried on into the early hours of the morning, and lead singer Matt Hales revealed a self-depreciating comic touch between songs.
Aqualung came to the nation's attention when their 2003 track Strange and Beautiful was used in a car advert. Next month they return to America to support David Gray but hopefully they'll come back to Brighton soon.
