Turning the traditional art of drumming into astounding physical theatre, Japan's electrifying, 14-piece Taiko drum ensemble are a startling sight to behold.
Kodo literally means "heartbeat", reflecting the primal, lifelike sound of the drum. It also means "children of the drum", fitting for a group whose whole ethos centres round notions of simplicity and freshness.
The group's aim is to both preserve and re-interpret the ancient Japanese art form of drumming, recreating it anew to bring it to modern cultures across the world.
The result is a roof-raising show, as powerful as it is beautiful.
Kodo try to spend at least four months a year at their spiritual home, Sado Island, in Japan. Over the years it has become a meeting place for musicians who the group have stumbled across on their travels.
Artists from all over the world come to the tiny isle to jam with the drumming masters, with every collaboration becoming part of the ancient tradition.
Starts 7.30pm. Tickets cost £18.50-£24. Call 01273 709709
