In the wake of the criticism of the Crown Prosecution Service for failing to act earlier in the case of Abu Hamza comes the acquittal, after four court hearings, of Sion Jenkins for the murder of his foster daughter.
The persistence of the CPS in the latter case smacks of vindictiveness and was not adequately explained by the chief prosecutor for Sussex in a Radio 4 interview.
Now we have the failure of the CPS to act in the lesser case of the alleged assault on Argus photographer Eddie Freeman, despite being provided with two witnesses.
This is a curious decision and deserves to be challenged. I can say I have no connection with any of the persons involved in the foregoing cases but, as a former officer of the court and a believer in our system of justice, feel the role of the CPS needs to be reviewed.
