Before we get too enthusiastic about domestic wind turbines, it needs to be remembered these suffer the same limitations as larger wind farms.
The obvious one is if there is no wind over 10mph, no electricity will be generated, so for the recent cold snaps your domestic turbine would have made no contribution.
The turbines also cannot operate if the wind speed is in excess of 40mph. The output from a turbine is not directly proportional to wind speed. The Windsave 1000, with a fan diameter of 5ft 9ins, produces 1000W (one bar of an electric fire) at 30mph but at 15mph it would produce less than a quarter of that figure.
The computer-generated image used shows five turbines on what looks like a Regency terrace. This would only be the case if there were just five households. If the terrace had been converted to flats there would need to be a turbine per household.
I suggest the council should look before it leaps.
