Thank you for your excellent report, "Sealing the fate of small post offices" (The Argus, February 7), and thank you to the postmasters and postmistress for clarifying the issues.
I live in Coldean and regularly walk to Coldean post office, which is very efficient and convenient.
A very large number of our residents depends on this local post office. If it and others like it were closed, they would have to make a journey to reach another, quite possibly in central Brighton.
Government services are an important part of post office income, so my fellow councillors and I, with our MP, will need to continue talking to the Government to ensure it understands any decision the Department of Work and Pensions may make to remove services will have a serious impact on our local post offices and customers.
I am ready, as a local councillor and a user of our local post office, to work with like-minded people to campaign to save our local post offices, which contribute so much to the quality of our lives.
We need and value local services and there is more at stake here than a narrow-minded pursuit of profit at the expense of other values.
-Councillor Tehmtan Framroze, Hollingbury & Stanmer Ward
