The guide offers a critical view of what's hot for the following week.
Simple Minds, The Dome, Brighton, Sunday, February 12
By their own admission, Simple Minds have been a bit rubbish in the past decade. But new album Black And White 050505 has been hailed by many as a return to form.
The Scottish stadium rockers, who have been doing the rounds for three decades, are touring smaller venues this time around, which could be a great opportunity for fans to pay their respects without watching a big screen and giving themselves neck-ache. Thanks to some potential crowd-pleasers on the new album, they should be gleefully punching the air within minutes. Jim Kerr and the gang have also promised some old hits, so don't you forget about them. Doors open 7pm, tickets £28.50. Call 01273 709709.
Orson, Concorde 2, Madeira Drive, Brighton, Thursday, February 16
Having being hailed by Radio One as "the missing link between the Rolling Stones and Scissor Sisters", things have happened quickly for this Hollywood-based two-guitar power-pop band. Their debut UK performance was at Manchester's In The City in October and by November they had been signed by major label Mercury Records.
We have 5 pairs of tickets to the gig give away. Just answer the following question: Which American city do Orson come from? To enter, text SUNOGUIDE, followed by a space, your answer, name and address to: 88010. A text will cost your normal network rate only. Closing date Monday February 13.
Starts 7pm, tickets £6. Call 01273 673311.
The Boy Least Likely To, Hanbury Ballroom, Brighton, Thursday, February 16
Looking at life's important issues - tigers, monsters and warm Panda cola - The Boy Least Likely To aim to sprinkle our lives with sweet, sparkly loveliness. Rejecting the angsty rock route taken by many of their pals, Pete (music) and Jof (vocals) looked at the likes of Brian Wilson, Dexy's Midnight Runners and Belle and Sebastian for inspiration. Their debut album The Best Party Ever (which has the sweetest artwork ever) was released on their own label earlier this year. It's full of infectious melodies, with recorders, synths, hand claps, banjos and glockenspiel. Live, they play with a seven-piece band and aim to bring a smile to every face.Starts 7pm, tickets £6. Call 01273 605789.
