And while the majority of Brighton's Francophiles were queuing to see Michael Haneke's bleak psychological film Cach, on Monday lovers of musical secrets sought out Francoiz Breut, over from Brussels on a rare UK tour.
The breathy-voiced beauty made strange little hand movements as though playing an imaginary harp and contributed inadvertent percussion as her rings clicked on the mic stand.
Meanwhile a plump man named Boris backed her with inventive, trip-hoppy arrangements, playing xylophone and guitar simultaneously and operating a record player with his feet. When the two sang together in harmony it was incredibly beautiful.
Melodies from the sultry side of enchanter and a chanteuse who sings "nuit" and "desirer" but rarely "je t'aime": Someone should make a film for this soundtrack.
