Joining the ranks of The Go! Team, The Ordinary Boys (at a push) and The Pipettes, Clearlake - Jason Pegg (vocals, guitars), Dave Woodward (bass), Sam Hewitt (keyboards) and James Butcher (drums) - are actually from Hove, so they're just that little bit better than Brighton bands.
Their song Winterlike, a pleasantly-jangling track from their Amber album, released this January, has been bouncing all over Radio 1, championed by DJs such as Colin and Edith and Zane Lowe.
But the group aren't exactly stripling wunderkinds. Amber is their third album and the group are not exactly new to the live scene either, having supported Pulp and The Delgadoes and appeared on Later with Jools Holland.
They filled the venue with the expansive Wondering If The Snow Will Settle.
Then, in contrast, Almost The Same was belted out followed by the dark I'd Like To Hurt You.
All in all, they have the aura to justify the hype.
