I am writing in response to Jennifer James' comments in The Argus (Letters, January 24) about refuse collection.
I'd like to say we have every right to moan. I am 28 years old with a family and a mortgage and have to pay an astronomical council tax bill to cover things like this. So why the hell should I do the dustmen's jobs for them?
I work for a bank. What if I decided not to do my job for a day and didn't deal with your account as I should. Would you be as forgiving and offer to do my job for me. I don't think so.
It is what they are paid to do, so they should be doing it. As far as myself and many other residents of Brighton and Hove are concerned, we already do too much for them.
Gone are the days when your local dustman would come and take the rubbish from outside your back door.
You now have to make sure the bin is in exactly the right place on the pavement just to ensure they do their job and take the rubbish away.
Why should I also have to waste my time and petrol running bags of rubbish to the tip. It's not as though dustmen have a difficult job and they are paid very well.
