Thank you for publicising the results of the "magical recycling wizard" competition staged in West Sussex last year (The Argus, January 10) - any publicity that encourages recycling is most valuable.
However, West Sussex County Council is not alone in the fight to reduce the amount of waste disposed of in the county - some 460,000 tonnes a year, rising to an estimated 600,000 by 2015. It is a member of Reclaim West Sussex, a partnership which also includes all the district and borough councils in West Sussex and Viridor, our waste contractor.
Currently, householders in West Sussex recycle 27 per cent of household waste, ten per cent above the national average, but the aim of Reclaim West Sussex is to see 45 per cent of household waste being recycled by 2015.
-Councillor Nola Hendon, Policy Adviser for Strategic Planning, West Sussex County Council
