I read with great interest the article by Sara Wallis entitled "Breathing new life into the forgotten old port of Sussex" (The Argus, November 8).
I have lived in Newhaven for about 20 years and, at one time, had a business there.
Yes, I congratulate the West Ouay development. It looks great - apart from the section at the end by the fishing works, which could do with a tidy up already.
But who could afford to live there? Most of the property is owned by "outsiders", as locals refer to them.
The trouble is, Newhaven folk don't take to people who weren't born in this fishing port, as I know from personal experience.
And could someone direct me to the new High Street mentioned in the article as I can't find this lovely new street?
The only one I found is the one where most of the shops have closed down in the past few years, including banks and estate agents. When banks shut, the writing is on the wall.
So who will be buying these new houses in Railway Quay? Not Newhaven folk.
I send this message to the people of Newhaven town: More outsiders will be coming.
