The facilities planned at Teville Gate, Worthing, are fantastic and I'm looking forward to getting a decent sports centre in the town at last.
I also like the addition of trees and grass areas in what is a barren and concrete part of town.
My main criticism is the design of the building from the outside.
The nicest parts of Worthing are those designed in a classical style, such as the Edwardian villas, the columns of St Pauls and the Town Hall, as well as the beautiful Regency houses around Amelia Gardens, even the new Nautilus development on the seafront.
I see none of these features incorporated in the new development, although it claims to "be influenced by Worthing's coastal heritage, the grain and structure of the town".
It looks as if it would be more at home in Croydon or next to the Festival Hall in London.
It is far too high and looms over the surrounding buildings. Who is going to pay the massive window-cleaning bill to keep all the glass sparkling?
I can't see people looking at the building in 100-years time and saying: "What a beautiful building. That really enhances Worthing."
