Simon Wormull has urged the Crawley board not to rush the decision to appoint a new manager.
Wormull will be in caretaker charge again for Saturday's home match against Southport after Crawley's search for a replacement for Francis Vines hit delays this week.
Reds held second interviews for the vacant post yesterday but were dealt a blow when one of the leading contenders for the job, Graham Rix, was named as the new head coach of Scottish Premier League side Hearts.
Wormull said: "It is a big decision so it is important not to rush into anything.
"It could be next week but it could take a month. The most important thing is to make the right choice.
"The fact Graham Rix applied shows the high standard of people interested in the job but you cannot blame him for choosing to go to a club like Hearts."
