Rundaddy (Views From The Web, October 22) should check the history of Sussex before stating its partition occurred in 1974. This date was the creation of the East and West Sussex postal areas.
Sussex was divided administratively into two counties, with Chichester the county town of West Sussex and Lewes the county town of East Sussex, in 1888 - only 86 years out.
