I read the item about the old gun outside the Newhaven History Museum with great interest (The Argus, October 24).
Peter Bailey, the curator, must be amused and frustrated with the stupid way the police are making such a fuss about it.
Time and again, we hear just how busy the police are and they often fail to attend an incident, making a general excuse about how much they have to do.
An incident occurred on a Saturday morning in Whitehawk Road recently, whereby a possible burglar was found asleep against an elderly woman's front door.
The police were called and attended - two days later, claiming they had been busy.
Meanwhile, the elderly woman was scared out of her wits.
I wonder what the police think the museum is going to use the gun for, exactly?
In the Police Museum at Brighton Town Hall, there are a number of police handcuffs on display.
Doesn't the Police Museum need a licence for these? After all, they could be construed as offensive weapons.
Come on Sussex Police, show some common sense.
