The father of missing student Eddie Gibson will fly out to Cambodia next week to continue the search for him.

Eddie, 20, a former Cardinal Newman School student from Hove, disappeared a year ago while travelling in the Far East.

His father Michael hopes his latest trip to Cambodia with two friends on November 18 will uncover new information about what happened to him.

Hundreds of friends, family and supporters were at an emotional service for Eddie at St Peter's Church, West Blatchington, Hove, on Saturday.

A Prayer for Eddie was organised to mark the anniversary of his disappearance in October last year after he contacted his parents to say he was on his way home.

Two witnesses said they saw Eddie, who was studying management at Leeds University, leave Phnom Penh in Cambodia for Poipet on the border with Thailand.

He was believed to have had about £1,500 in cash and was travelling on his own.

His family believe he may have met up with a local man who had shown him around the Angkor Wat temple site on his gap-year travels.

The lawless border town is an area notorious for drugs, prostitution and gambling and it is feared he may have attracted the attention of armed drug dealers.

Michael Gibson said: "We will be speaking to the Cambodian police and trying to enlist the help of the print media out there to give us publicity.

"We need to find anyone who may have seen Eddie out there. The service on Saturday brought everyone together to say a prayer for him as it is a year since we last heard from him.

"There were about 350 people in the church, many of them young people who knew him as well as friends and family.

"It was very emotional and certainly helped us to feel closer to him."

The service was led by Father Robin Farrow and began with the theme from the film Braveheart.

Some of Eddie's favourite songs including Search for the Hero by M-People, Ben E. King's Stand By Me and Sade's By Your Side were also sung.

His mother Jo Gibson-Clarke, and brothers Matt, Max and Jez greeted guests as they arrived at the service.
